pedal365.blogspot.com is going to be my ongoing documentation of my attempt, scratch that, my daily bike commute which I will do for a year. When finished I will be happier than this kid.

July is almost over already, wowza where does the time go?
Hello all,
Another bee-e-a-utiful day here in SE Ptown. Many new revelations in the lands of Portland, the breeze has brought in some interesting new characters to my life here. I finally got out of that crazy house on Hawthorne after many many nights of wondering what will happen next. So now I am in a condo, glamorous right? But wait it gets better. I have only one roommate, well technically two because Mick the dog is a 140 pound great Dane, Sean the sushi chef. Good dude, good friends, non-annoying and super easy to get along with. I am actually really stoked about my current living situation, 21st and Clinton is a great neighborhood and it made me closer to my work. So now I only have a 15 minute cyclo-commute which is nice, especially on those mornings where I cant quite wake up on time. Coltrane the bicycle has been holding up very well as being my only form of transportation. Its funny how once you commit to be a "cyclist" as your primary means of getting around you find these ways to do everything you did before but only on two wheels. I am working on a cargo bike currently for hauling bigger loads but my thoughts have been diverted to a special bicycle project for my lady friend.
Which brings me to another point, my lady friend. I will not go into details about who she is because this is the internet, By the way. She may or may not be into tooling around town on two wheels as much as me, but I sure hope she enjoys it half as much as I do for both our sakes. I have built up a pretty awesome reincarnation of Nervous Nellie, the Nishiki bike that I learned to fall in love with road bikes on. Funny thing is now that I know something about bikes I realize how absurdly small the bike was for me. Hopefully it will be perfect for her, we will see.
Many new revelations are going to be left unmentioned but lets see what else I can conjure up laters.
Have a good one and keep it classy out there.

Thoughts on this ever-evolving thing we call life
So, it has been a rather eventful few weeks here in Bridgetown. Lets start with a Saturday a few Saturdays ago when me and my amazing friends went out to celebrate the engagement of two beautiful souls. Sometimes people say they are getting engaged and you have no emotion, sometimes you think it is a good idea, sometimes a bad idea, this exact example makes the most sense of any nuptials I have ever heard mentioned. The two are amazing, just the friendliest, most outgoing, bend-over-backwards to help anyone type of people including me; who they helped with the introduction of a beautiful young lady into my life. Needless to say I was stoked for the night, everyone came over and we commenced merrymaking, went out and painted the town red and everyone made it home safe and sound.... great night.
Next morning, not so much. Some schmuck stole my bicycle out of my living room, thats right my living room on a Sunday, on Gods day. Ughh....
It taught me a very valuable lesson about people, tendencies, trust, and "homespace." I do not wish any harm on the thief, his karma has already taken that hit, nor do I regret the events that transpiried. No, I learned alot from that, some things that I needed to learn before more serious events could take place. Mainly learned about the company that you keep, very important lesson.
Then came the roommate shuffle. My house is quite the eclectic one, difficult to find a lot of people that get along very well and can live in the same space, but you know me I roll with the punches. So first, I thought of moving out, turned out to be way too expensive and unnecessary in the long run. Then Jerry moved out, I will miss the kid but no harm no foul. Then Jerry proposes the idea to Carrie to move out, she accepts and once again i miss her but its not like they are living the Portland area, we will cross paths regulary i feel. So now me, Matty, and Natalie are presented with a unique situation: find two new roommates that can do the communal, crazy, open door policy house deal. It is Portland so it has been incredibly easy so far, I am excited about getting new roommates and meeting new people and making new friends. Plus I just cant wait for the summertime here, especially in our beautiful house.
Now for the random thoughts that have been plaguing me recently. I am very fotunate to have my folks and friends that are always there for support. I need to organize my life better. We got another volunteer coach for the varisty Hillsboro high school lacrosse team that I am coaching, hopefully that will take some pressure off of my schedule. I have emt an amazing young woman who is very good to me, and I try to be in return, relationships are constant learning environments and I wouldnt have it any other way. The Ravens need to re-sign Ray Ray, they have to, I dont care what it takes.
I am one lucky individual, for reals.

Lets give this a shot..
All,
So you know I am pretty outspoken and don't really hold back, but recently I have been and it eats me up inside when i have all these random thoughts piling up in my brain with no venue to release them into. Well I figure this blog can be my wastebasket for complete nonsense that crosses my incredibly ADD brain throughout my "normal" weeks here in the magical land of Portland. I will try to spread the love around between my way-too-many-to-list hobbies and distractions that rule my life, but I can guarantee that it will be consistently inconsistent with absolutely no guarantees of any consistency consistently, follow that?
This is basically my introductory blog post. Those who know me know me, for those who dont... well its nice to "meet" you. The internet terrifies me and gives me hope that the planet can survive another fifty years, and it also solves lifes most important questions. Like when you need to know who was the guest star on the 42nd episode of "Murder She Wrote" ( Peter Bonerz) and I wish I had made up that name. So it is to the internet that I turn to allow my people back home and all over the world, shout outs to Grenada, Costa and the DR, to get a little idea of what nonsense consumes my thought processes during the course of a normal day.
I am a young wandering soul who have finally found restitude in a little big city entitled Portland, Stumptown, Bridgecity, city of roses, Rip City, Little Beirut, or whatever the kids are calling it these days. This is an amazing city; like Wonder Woman amazing, not like W staying in office for eight years amazing, and i am completely head over heels in love with it. There is a lot of care put into everything here, people who reside here want to reside here and that is the most noticeable difference. Back in Charm city almost everyone is from there and it seems that it lacks the respect that it deserves, think of two million people living on Rodney Dangerfield. Here practically everyone has moved here and along with them brought their story and passion for whatever inspires them. this is the main reason that the city has so many "scenes" I mean really if you cannot find a niche in portland you are probably more like the grizzlie man and should be living in the treetops somewhere, preferably not with lemurs because that is my dream not yours. Since moving here I have realized so many things that bothered me living elsewhere, things that I love that I knew about, and things that i love that i had no idea even existed like curbside composting.
In summary i will try to fill the pages of this blog with meaningful, inspirational, and wonderfully amusing rants that to the average person will prove to be completely uninspiring, meaningless and not humurous. But to those that really know, or get to know me, it will be just like sitting at Souris saloon kicking back some Natty bohs and pretending like you understand what I am trying to say.
Carpe Diem, for it is the only one that we get today
